Jewelry Insurance

A fine piece of jewelry is worth protecting the day you take it home. A dedicated jewelry insurance policy covers the things a standard homeowners or renters policy often limits — and filing a jewelry claim doesn't put your home policy at risk.

What a Dedicated Policy Covers

Through Jewelers Mutual — the insurer that has specialized in jewelry since 1913 — a personal jewelry policy typically covers:

  • Loss — you left it behind or it slipped off
  • Theft
  • Damage — a cracked stone, a broken prong, a crushed band
  • Mysterious disappearance — it's gone and you can't explain how
  • Worldwide travel — coverage follows your jewelry wherever you go

Policies are repair-or-replacement: if something happens, the piece is repaired or replaced with one of like kind and quality, and you can work with the jeweler of your choice. Deductible options are available, including $0, and coverage typically costs about 1–2% of the piece's value per year — for example, around $50–$100 a year for a $5,000 ring.

How to Insure a Piece

  1. Know its value. Keep your Kings Jewelers receipt; for higher-value pieces, an appraisal documents the details an insurer needs.
  2. Get a quote. It takes a few minutes online — you'll describe the piece and its value.
  3. Activate coverage. Once your policy is issued, your piece is protected against loss, theft, and damage worldwide.
